How should a ceiling-cassette fault be separated?
A cassette combines a ceiling drain pump, return-air path, four-way grille and controls in a confined void. The first inspection should match the visible pattern instead of treating every drip as a cracked tray or every weak-cooling complaint as low gas.
Do not open the ceiling grille, drain pump or electrical cover from a ladder. Record the location and timing from floor level, then arrange access by the appropriate service team.

Which seven cassette patterns change the first test?
These case patterns separate local cassette faults from ceiling-route and shared-system faults.
1. What does a late-day cassette drip suggest?
A drip that begins only after hours of operation directs testing to accumulated condensate, pump operation and float movement. It does not prove a cracked drain tray.
A Bukit Merah shop cassette stayed dry earlier in the day and dripped near closing time. Recreating the late-day water load found a drain-pump float jammed by sludge.
2. What does weak airflow in every direction suggest?
Weak air across the full grille puts the return filter, blower and coil air path ahead of louvre adjustment or refrigerant. Lowering the set temperature does not restore a blocked air path.
A Paya Lebar office cassette ran with weak airflow throughout the room. The return filter was loaded with road dust, and its condition was checked before gas was discussed.
3. What does one warm side of the room suggest?
One warm quadrant with the rest of the room cold directs inspection to the corresponding vane, outlet and coil section. A shared compressor or gas fault would not explain the air-distribution pattern by itself.
A Geylang cassette left one corner warm because one louvre vane was stuck closed and the coil quadrant behind it was fouled. All four vane mechanisms were checked in sequence.
4. What does intermittent remote response suggest?
A cassette that sometimes answers the remote needs the handset, receiver window and cover position separated from control-board failure. Record whether manual controls still respond.
A Kallang PRISM+ cassette ignored its remote intermittently. The handset and board tested separately before inspection found dust on the receiver window under a service cover that had not been fully reseated.
5. What does an error after heavy cooling load suggest?
An error that appears after a long, heavy run can follow water rising in the drain tray. The drain pump and overflow switch should be checked before a board is quoted.

6. What does a fault starting after ceiling or fit-out work suggest?
A new leak or rattle after access work should start with the routes and panels that changed. This can separate installation fit from an internal component failure.
A River Valley cassette leaked after relocation because its new drain-hose run was kinked. A Marina South cassette rattled after ceiling service because its panel was not seated flat.
7. What do several weak cassettes on one system suggest?
Several cassette units weakening together put shared outdoor capacity, refrigerant and controls ahead of separate grille faults. Model pairing and simultaneous load should be checked.
An Ang Mo Kio installation connected three cassette indoor units to an outdoor unit rated for a smaller system. Nameplate comparison and a load test identified the capacity mismatch.
What should an office or condo record before access is arranged?
A floor-level observation can narrow the access plan and reduce disruption.
- Mark the grille edge, corner or ceiling tile where water first appears.
- Record how long the cassette runs before the drip, error or shutdown.
- Compare airflow from all four sides without opening the grille.
- Test normal remote commands and note whether wall or manual controls respond.
- List recent filter cleaning, ceiling access, relocation or fit-out work.
- State whether other cassettes on the same outdoor system weaken or fault together.
What are the limits of a cassette fault pattern?
Visible timing and direction decide the first inspection but cannot confirm a pump, switch, vane, sensor, board, hose or capacity fault. Ceiling-concealed routes also require safe access before their condition can be assessed.
Stop the cassette if water approaches lights, sockets or electrical equipment. Do not bypass an overflow switch, force a louvre, open the ceiling panel or pour drain chemicals into the unit. Ask which test separated drainage, airflow, control, installation and shared-system causes.
