Why does my aircon smell or feel weaker after the haze?

How we confirm it
Rinse the filter and let the unit run a full day before judging the result. If the smell and the softness were only haze dust sitting on the filter, both clear within that first day back to normal air. Airflow should feel the same as it did before the haze started, and the smell should not return on the next few startups. No coil work or servicing visit is needed for this pattern on its own. A clean filter is the full fix. If either symptom is still there the next day, treat it as the second pattern below rather than repeating the same rinse.
Do not agree to a chemical servicing or repair visit based on smell or softness alone during a haze week. If both clear within a day of a filter rinse, the symptom was already resolving on its own.
