Aircon Gas Leak Detection

Low refrigerant is a symptom, not the fault. Topping up without finding the leak means paying again in months. We pressure-test first with dry nitrogen to confirm whether a leak exists and locate exactly where it's escaping, so the repair fixes the cause instead of refilling around it. For current rates, see the pricing page.

What Gas Leak Detection Covers

A nitrogen pressure test to confirm whether the system's losing gas and locate the leak before any repair is quoted. Common situations where leak detection fits:

  • Gas dropped again within months

Repeated top-ups mean refrigerant's escaping somewhere in the circuit.

  • System is completely empty

A full loss needs leak detection before recharging, or the new gas escapes again.

  • Leak risk after piping or relocation work

Pressure testing confirms the joints and pipe run hold before we charge the system.

When to Start Elsewhere

A pressure test isn't the first move for every weak-cooling complaint.

  • Pressure dropped slowly over several years

A measured gas top-up's usually enough if the system has held charge for a long period.

  • Pressure is normal but cooling is weak

Fault's more likely airflow, compressor, sensor, or control related, not a leak.

  • No pressure reading has been taken

Start with an on-site inspection so we can confirm whether leak detection's warranted.

What We Check Before Quoting

We test whether the system holds pressure and locate the leak before recommending the repair path.

  • System isolation

We isolate the refrigerant circuit so pressure can be tested properly, without guessing from running symptoms.

  • Nitrogen pressure test

We introduce dry nitrogen at controlled pressure and monitor whether the system holds.

  • Leak location

If pressure drops, we check the likely points: flare joints, service valves, coils, and pipe runs.

  • Repair quote

We only quote the repair once the leak location and access requirements are clear.

What You Get

Stop repeat top-ups by proving whether the system's leaking and where.

  • Leak confirmed before repair

You don't pay for leak repair when the pressure test shows the system's holding.

  • Fault location identified

Joint, valve, coil, or pipe run narrowed down before any repair is quoted.

  • Retest after repair

After the fix, we check pressure again before recharging.

Not Sure What Failed?

If the fault is not confirmed yet, start with an on-site inspection before choosing a repair path.
