The management office at a Clementi condo returned the installation application with one condition attached. The outdoor unit could not sit where the quote had drawn it. That single line moved the pipe route, the drain fall and the material list.

What we were told
The property was a new condo handover with an installation quote already signed. The management office required a fit-out application before any drilling could start. That application came back approved, with a written condition attached to where the outdoor unit was allowed to sit. Nothing had been ordered yet.
What we checked
An approval condition is a design input rather than paperwork, so the route was measured again from the permitted ledge outward. We walked the pipe path, checked the drain fall and marked the drilling points. What moves on the application also moves what the system has to do once it runs.
The permitted ledge sat at the far end of the service yard, well past the balcony wall shown on the quote.
Re-routing to that ledge lengthened the pipe path substantially and crossed two structural walls.
Drain fall from the living room head still held on the new route, but with far less margin than before.
One additional core drill was needed where the run crosses into the service yard.
What we found
The estate allows outdoor units only on a shared condenser ledge, set back from the balcony line so the elevation stays uniform. Nobody had read that rule before pricing. Moving the unit to the permitted position lengthens the refrigerant run and adds a drilled crossing, so the gas quantity, the bracket specification and the labour all had to be worked out again. The condition surfaced before work started, which is the only reason it never became a variation.
What fixed it
We repriced the install against the approved position instead of the drawing. Longer runs carry a charge adjustment, and that adjustment was worked out from the route we walked rather than a rule of thumb. Insulation was specified continuously across the whole path, including the exposed section crossing the service yard. Drilling was booked inside the hours the estate permits, which keeps the approval valid and avoids a stop-work notice.
