What we were told
The complaint started after an office fit-out. Staff beneath the open-area supply felt cold, while the enclosed meeting room became warm during closed-door discussions. Its controller responded and no fault code appeared. The final control drawing still placed the wall sensor in the open office, outside the room it was meant to represent.
What we checked
We mapped the warm and cold areas, then reproduced the complaint with the meeting-room door closed. We checked the supply and return paths first so a blocked route did not get mistaken for a control fault. We then compared the wall sensor, controller setting, final zone drawing, and room response while the meeting room was occupied.
The meeting room received supply air and retained a clear high-level return path with the door closed.
The wall sensor remained beside the colder open desks, where direct supply reached it before the enclosed room cooled.
The controller reduced cooling once the open-office sensor was satisfied, even though the meeting room remained warm.
The pattern followed the sensor location during normal use, not a fault code, blocked grille, or loss of total airflow.
What we found
We found that the meeting room was following a sensor left in the colder open office after the fit-out created a separate zone. Its air path was clear, but the controller reduced active cooling when the open desks reached target. The enclosed room therefore received less cooling than its own condition required. The checks did not show a capacity shortfall.
What fixed it
We recommended moving the control sensing into the meeting-room zone and updating the final control record. The supply and return paths stayed unchanged because they had passed the closed-door check. We then retested the room under comparable use. Another cassette remained outside the scope unless the corrected zone control still failed to hold the meeting room.
Outcome
After the control correction, the meeting room continued cooling after the open desks reached target. The handover record closed the zone item without adding capacity.
