Aircon gas top-up

Refrigerant top-up for R22, R410A, and R32 systems. Pressure check first, top-up second. We’ll assess first, then confirm whether this is the right scope before you book.

What aircon gas top-up covers

Aircon gas top-up restores refrigerant that's been lost. We check pressure first to confirm low charge is actually the cause, because topping up a leaking system only buys time before the same problem returns. If the pressure won't hold, we'll tell you and recommend leak detection instead. Common situations where a top-up fits:

  • Air blows but isn't cold

The unit runs, but there isn't enough refrigerant to transfer heat properly.

  • Ice forms on the indoor coil or piping

Low charge makes the evaporator overcool and freezes surface condensation.

  • Previous top-up lasted a few years

Slow loss is manageable after a pressure check. A recent repeat loss should be treated as a leak first.

When a gas top-up isn't suitable

Top-up shouldn't be the default if the system's clearly losing gas or the fault points somewhere else.

  • Gas dropped again within months

Points to an active leak. Leak detection or pressure testing should come first.

  • System is completely empty

A leak or failed component has to be found before recharging, or the gas escapes again.

  • Gas pressure is normal

The cooling fault's elsewhere: airflow, compressor, expansion valve, sensor, or control issue.

What you get

Restored cooling without hiding a leak.

  • Pressure checked before top-up

You know whether low gas is the actual cause, instead of paying for refrigerant blindly.

  • Right gas, right quantity

Refrigerant matched to the system type and measured before and after.

  • Leak risk explained

If pressure doesn't hold, you get the facts before deciding on leak detection or repair.

How a gas top-up works

Pressure check first, top-up second. From your first message to restored cooling, here is what happens.

  1. You message us

Tell us the symptom: air blowing but not cold, ice on the pipe, or how long since the last top-up. We come back with the likely causes.

  2. We assess on-site ($30)

We pressure-check first to confirm low charge is actually the cause, because topping up a leaking system only buys time. The $30 rules out work you don't need.

  3. We explain what we found

Plain language: whether the pressure holds and a top-up makes sense, or whether it's a leak that needs detection first.

  4. We quote, you decide

The refrigerant type and measured amount, priced before and after. Nothing goes ahead without your say.

  5. We top up and verify

The $30 comes off the work. We add the correct gas, measure the charge, and run the unit to confirm cooling before we leave.

What we check before adding gas

Top-up only happens after we've checked the system enough to know it makes sense.

  • Pressure check

Manifold gauges tell us whether refrigerant's low, how far it's dropped, and whether the pressure is holding.

  • Leak assessment

If pressure's low and not holding, we explain the leak risk before recommending any top-up.

  • Refrigerant type confirmed

R22, R410A, and R32 aren't interchangeable. We confirm the type from the unit nameplate before adding gas.

  • Top-up and verify

If pressure holds, we add the correct refrigerant amount, then run the unit to verify cooling performance.

From the field

  • R410A refrigerant canister and manifold gauges ready for a measured aircon top-up.
A measured R410A top-up, charge checked on the gauges before and after.

Workmanship warranty

We stand behind the repair we carry out, and we are straight about the part of the cover we do not set ourselves.

Labour

30-day labour warranty. If the same fault returns from the repair we did, we come back and the labour is on us, with no second diagnosis fee.

Parts

Parts follow whatever warranty the distributor sets for that component, so the term varies by part. We tell you the coverage before you approve the quote.

Frequently asked questions about aircon gas top-up in Singapore

How much does aircon gas top-up cost in Singapore?
R22: $60 to $100. R410A: $80 to $150. R32: $120 to $200. The range depends on how much refrigerant the system needs. We measure the charge level before and after, so you're paying for what was actually added.
How often does aircon gas need topping up?
A properly sealed system shouldn't need regular top-ups. Refrigerant isn't consumed during operation. If the level keeps dropping, there's a leak. Needing a top-up more than once every few years means the underlying problem hasn't been fixed.
Can you mix different refrigerant types?
No. R22, R410A, and R32 run at different pressures and use different compressor oils. Mixing them causes chemical incompatibility, damages the compressor, and voids any remaining warranty. We confirm the refrigerant type from the unit nameplate before any work.
Should I top up or replace an old R22 system?
If the unit's running well and the top-up resolves the issue, topping up is reasonable for now. But R22 supply is shrinking and prices are climbing. If the unit is over 10 years old, needs frequent top-ups, or has a known leak, replacing it with an R410A or R32 system is more cost-effective long term.
