Two same-age systems at a high floor, and replacing both at once looks efficient. Whether identical age means identical condition.

A living and dining area that has gone warm and stayed warm, while the bedrooms still cool normally. Both sets of equipment went in with the original fit-out and neither has been replaced. A single price covering both has already been proposed.

What else produces this
Two systems of the same age can sit in completely different condition. Each is tested on its own terms rather than judged by a shared install date. A full cooling check on each, then a measurement of what each draws to hold the same temperature. The one that has aged badly shows in both numbers. The one that has not shows in neither.
An outdoor unit holding almost no pressure, with a coil face corroded through in places, has nothing left in it.
A compressor drawing heavy power for weak output has running cost climbing with no cooling to show for it.
A second outdoor unit cooling to within range and drawing close to its original figures is barely worn.
A shaded position and fewer running hours account for the difference without anything else being wrong.
Why it happens
Exposure and duty do the ageing, not the calendar. A ledge is rarely uniform: one end takes sun and driven rain while the other sits shaded, and the areas they serve are occupied for very different hours. Over a decade that gap compounds until one system is finished and its twin is mid-life. They will always share an install date and they stopped sharing a condition years ago.
What resolution involves
Replace the living area system and leave the bedroom system in service. Doing both together scraps working equipment to save one round of ledge access, and that access is a modest line beside the price of a second system. Worth saying plainly is when the second one comes: measured, not guessed, at the point its own numbers move rather than at the point the first one was replaced.
How to tell it worked
Ask for output and running power on each system separately. A quote that prices two systems and measures neither has priced the access, not the equipment.

- Ask for each system to be measured on its own. Shared install dates prove nothing about shared wear.
- Position and hours do the ageing. A shaded ledge and a sunny one produce different units from the same box.
- Access being expensive is an argument for planning, not for scrapping equipment that still works.
