Five Daikin names, two different questions
That reputation shows up on more HDB and condo walls than any other brand. Most buyers stop asking questions once the Daikin name checks out on a quote. That habit skips a real decision underneath it. Daikin sells five distinct wall-mounted residential families in Singapore. A quote that only says Daikin has not actually told you which one you are getting.
Two things separate these five families. They are not the same question. The first is generation. That is where a family sits in Daikin's own product timeline. It runs from the older iSmile CTKS and CTKB, through iSmileEco CTKM and CTKP VVMG, to the current iSmileEco+ CTKM ZVMG. The second is platform. That is whether a family shares one outdoor unit across several rooms, or runs alone as a single split. EZi CTKC WVMG and iSmart ENVi FTKM XVMG both sit outside that generation line, as their own separate names in the range.
This matters most at two exact moments. Both come up more often than a first-time buyer expects. The first is when a system already exists, and a new or replacement indoor unit needs to join it. The second is when a quote names a family that was not the one expected, with no explanation for the swap. Knowing which family is which, before either moment happens, changes what actually gets installed.
The generation lineage: from iSmile to iSmileEco+
Three of the five families form a lineage. They are not a lineup of equal alternatives sitting side by side. iSmile CTKS and CTKB are the older wall-mounted design. They are commonly paired with MKS outdoor units across HDB and condo multi-room systems. The iSmileEco CTKM and CTKP VVMG family followed, as the next generation on the same multi-split platform. The iSmileEco+ CTKM ZVMG family is what Daikin is currently selling in Singapore. It covers CTKM25, CTKM35, CTKM50, CTKM60, and CTKM71 indoor units.
This lineage is why a quote naming iSmile on its own is still incomplete. iSmile, iSmileEco, and iSmileEco+ share a root name because they share a lineage. They are not the same product sold at different prices. The model code that follows the name is what actually specifies the generation. Look for CTKS, CTKB, CTKM, or CTKP.
Why this matters most when a system already exists
None of this changes much for a brand-new multi-split install with no existing equipment to match. Choosing the current family and moving on is a reasonable default. It matters a great deal once only part of a system is being touched. A multi-split system shares one outdoor unit across every connected indoor unit. Adding or replacing a single indoor unit means that unit has to work with the outdoor unit already there. It also has to work with the other indoor units already on the wall. Carrying the same brand badge is not enough on its own.
An installer quoting a replacement indoor unit should check which generation the rest of the system already runs. That check should happen before recommending a specific model. A newer indoor unit paired with an older outdoor platform is not automatically a safe assumption. This is exactly the kind of check that gets skipped when a job is quoted quickly from a phone photo. If that check does not visibly happen, ask for it directly before agreeing to anything.

CTKS, CTKB, CTKM, and CTKP model codes point to the family. The numbers and letters that follow narrow it down further. Confirming this before a quote is finalized costs nothing. The self-diagnosis table is not identical across generations either
Generation affects more than compatibility. Daikin's own documented self-diagnosis code tables are not identical across every family. The current CTKM manuals list codes for a humidity sensor fault, a cooling-heating switching error, and a compressor internal temperature fault. The older CTKS and CTKB manuals do not list those same entries. EZi's CTKC manuals sit in between. They list some of those codes, but not all of them. A fault reading on a current ZVMG system does not guarantee the same reading on an older CTKS system.

Four of the five families share the same basic platform. iSmile CTKS and CTKB, iSmileEco CTKM and CTKP VVMG, iSmileEco+ CTKM ZVMG, and EZi CTKC WVMG are all multi-split. Each is a wall-mounted indoor unit built to run off one shared outdoor unit, alongside other indoor units in the same home. The iSmart ENVi FTKM XVMG family stands apart as the single-split option. It covers FTKM25, FTKM35, FTKM50, FTKM60, and FTKM71 indoor units. Each one pairs with its own dedicated outdoor unit, for a standalone room.

Multi-split vs the single-split iSmart ENVi, in practice
The platform choice carries a consequence that generation does not. On a multi-split system, one outdoor unit feeds every connected indoor unit. If the outdoor board or compressor trips, every room on that system loses cooling at the same time. That happens even if only one indoor unit, or one component, actually failed. A single-split iSmart ENVi room does not share that risk. Its outdoor unit serves nothing else.
This is worth weighing whenever a household adds cooling to one more room. That is different from fitting out a whole flat at once. Extending the existing multi-split system keeps everything under one outdoor unit and one control setup. That stays simple, until the outdoor unit is asked to support more indoor units than it comfortably can. EZi CTKC WVMG is not a misprint of iSmile. It is Daikin's own separate wall-mounted multi-split family name in the Singapore range. It covers CTKC25, CTKC35, and CTKC50 indoor units, sitting alongside iSmile, iSmileEco, and iSmileEco+ as a distinct line. Two different names inside one manufacturer's own lineup are rarely interchangeable by accident.
EZi shows up on the same kind of multi-split quote as iSmile and iSmileEco. It shares an outdoor unit across rooms, rather than standing alone. That overlap in how it gets installed is exactly why the two names get confused on a quote. It is also why confirming which one applies is worth the extra question.
What can be confirmed, and what can't
The honest answer for exactly what separates EZi from the iSmile line is not fully available here. Confirming a feature or price difference would need Daikin's own current specification sheet for the specific models on a given quote. This guide will not guess at a difference it cannot confirm. What can be said plainly is structural. EZi is its own named family, not an alternate label for iSmile. It carries its own model range, and its own documented self-diagnosis table.
Questions worth asking before accepting the swap
A name change on a quote deserves a question, not an assumption. If a shortlist assumed iSmile and a quote arrives naming EZi instead, say so. Raise it with the installer directly, and ask what changed.
A reasonable answer points to something specific. Room size, outdoor space constraints, budget, and matching an existing unit already installed elsewhere in the home are all valid reasons. A vague answer is not. Treating the two names as identical, without explaining why, is a signal to slow down. Get a second installer's read on the same job before committing.
How family and generation shape the repair conversation later
The family named on today's quote is also the family a technician will be diagnosing years from now. That link is easy to forget at the point of purchase. Age, not family name, is the main driver of Daikin's own repair-or-replace guidance in Singapore.
The breakdown below follows that guidance by age band, not by which of the five families is installed. Age is what actually moves the decision.
- Under five years: almost always worth repairing. Most faults at this age are minor, sensors, drainage, or installation issues, and parts move quickly.
- Five to eight years: repair is still the default. PCB and capacitor issues are common, but still affordable to fix.
- Eight to twelve years: depends on the fault. A compressor or inverter board failure starts to approach replacement cost. The decision needs a real diagnosis, not a default.
- Past twelve years: major component failures usually favour replacement outright. Minor fixes can still buy time on an otherwise sound unit.

Parts follow the brand, timing follows the age
Parts availability follows the brand more than any single family. Daikin's local parts supply chain is deep. Even older CTKS and CTKB components typically move through distribution without long waits. Communication faults between indoor and outdoor units are known as the U4 and U0 codes. They become more common as wiring and connectors age past the seven-year mark. That timeline applies most directly to the oldest family still on Singapore walls today.

Knowing which family and which platform is already installed, before a fault happens, makes the eventual repair-or-replace conversation faster.
